This is written as a series of Dream Interpretation Helps concerning dreams from God. I will cover the things that I feel are mandatory for correct dream interpretation and application of the truths revealed in the dream. All scripture references are NASB, unless otherwise noted. IS IT A DREAM FROM GOD?
First of all, I do not believe every dream is a message from God. It’s important to let the Holy Spirit discern if the dream was from your soul realm as you work through everyday life problems and circumstances, from your own spirit rather than the Holy Spirit, from an idol in the heart (Ezek 13, 14), from the enemy of your soul (satan and his demons), or if it was a true message from the Lord. I can only share what the Lord has personally taught me and shown me in His Word, the Bible. Dreams from the Lord, in my experience, are much more memorable than a dream from our soul. If I’ve just had a dream and sense that writing it down will cause me to retain virtually all of it, there’s a good chance that it was the Lord speaking.
On the other hand, if a dream that I’ve just had is vaporizing so fast that I can’t quite put my finger on it, I deliberately don’t try to remember it, as it was most likely from the soul realm. Sometimes parts of soul dreams are remembered because they expose an area in which we need healing or something we need prayer about. It is important to consider the possibilities which Ezekiel 13 and 14 address, too. If we ‘want’ something very strongly, we could open the door to a false dream about it masquerading as a true dream. So, it is important to submit our will to God’s will on a daily basis. A dream from the enemy that instills fear, such as a nightmare (especially a recurring one), needs to be prayed over. It may be revealing a need for deliverance. Perhaps the enemy of our soul needs to be rebuked where he has broken parts of the personality and gained ground in a life.
In such cases, ask the Lord what opened the door to the demonic dream so that it can be repented over if necessary and those doors closed. An authority figure (parent) may need to do this for a child. I will take a much more in depth view of dreams from God in the following articles.
