This is written as a series of Dream Interpretation Helps concerning dreams from God. I will cover the things that I feel are mandatory for correct dream interpretation and application of the truths revealed in the dream. All scripture references are NASB, unless otherwise noted. DREAMING FROM VIEWPOINTS OTHER THAN YOURSELF
Be aware that sometimes in a dream, you, personally, may symbolize something or someone other than yourself. This happens sometimes when you have been praying for someone. The Lord may give you a ‘word of knowledge’ about that person in the form of ‘you’ experiencing some of their memories or feelings, usually in parable form, in order to know how to pray for that person or how to speak to them the message the Lord is giving. You will usually dream about another person as if you are that person. I’ve observed that when the Lord allows you to dream in first person as if you are someone else, then it is for the purpose of having compassion on them or being able to know their situation more accurately since the Lord is allowing you to understand some of their thoughts, motives and/or feelings.
An example of this is when my aunt had an amazing dream 75 days before my father passed into Eternity from an auto accident (You will see later why the Lord gave the dream 75 days ahead of the event.). She experienced the dream as if she were my Dad (This became clear after the accident.). The dream covered at least 10 details of the accident that she otherwise could not have known. There wasn’t anything in the dream that wasn’t a part of the accident. Because my aunt dreamt from the viewpoint of my father who was in the car with my mother (who was driving), we believe we were even able to know my father’s final thoughts before he died. His thoughts were more on helping his beloved wife than on himself! The dream indicated that my father was dreaming of Heaven right before the accident and later, that he was trying to figure out how to help my mom, who had minor injuries, even as he lay dying.
Needless to say, the dream was a great comfort to us as it also shed light on a Word that I’d heard the Lord speak as I gazed at my parents, married for over 50 years, arms around each other, four days before the accident: “This is the last time you’ll see your parents together.” It was a very gentle Word to buffer the shock of what would soon come. The Lord had let my aunt’s dream be veiled until after the accident when the state trooper told us numerous factual details of the accident that we found to also be in the dream. We knew that the Lord had sovereignly taken my Dad at the age of 75 (the same age that Abraham was when he, too, traveled to the Promised Land). We understood it to be God’s will. And the Lord had given my aunt’s dream and my Word to comfort all of us, especially my mom who was driving when a strong gust of wind jerked the wheel from her grasp. It was not her ‘fault’. God is so good! What comfort amidst our sadness!
I wish to honor my aunt here by saying that I learned from her to be a good steward of dreams by writing them down and dating them. Also, sometimes in dreams I find myself representing “Wisdom” or “Coming into Wisdom” or the Holy Spirit’s viewpoint so the Lord can show me how He feels about something.
