This is written as a series of Dream Interpretation Helps concerning dreams from God. I will cover the things that I feel are mandatory for correct dream interpretation and application of the truths revealed in the dream. All scripture references are NASB, unless otherwise noted. BE CAREFUL OF ASSUMING IDENTITIES IN DREAMS
This can't be stressed enough! Even if a person in a corrective dream is himself or herself, that doesn't mean you were given the dream to judge them. In fact, if the dream stirs up judgment in you, it may be a false dream or a dream with truth in it that the devil gives and twists due to a suspicious or judgmental heart in us. A corrective dream for another (which should never be told without permission from your pastor), from my experience, has a strong element of mercy and compassion on the person, even as it wants to separate that person from sin by the work of the Lord bringing repentance to their heart. You might even see a trauma they've gone through that caused the weakness. Speak truth in love.
Sometimes a person represents something other than themselves. If you keep locking eyes with a person in a dream, they may be an aspect of yourself the Lord wants you to see. Are they a leader? What is their gift? Is God trying to show you that you have that same calling? They may represent the voice of the Lord if they are prophetic or of wisdom if they are warning people to take shelter or be taught in their house.
Bride of Christ dreams- God showing the state of His bride in making herself ready. The Lord may give her the face of someone you know, possibly a leader. That person may be representing the state of the church in general.
A missionary may represent the state of missions, not themselves, etc.
I was told a wife's dream recently where the Lord revealed that the 'person' of her 'husband' (with an erratic personality in the dream) was actually "Chemo"! That explained why he said he would eventual leave her. This was not meant to be a 'lasting marriage'. The clincher was his reason for leaving- to show her he was 'strong'. That would fit the personality of "Chemo", not a life partner. "Chemo" isn't meant to stay forever like a true husband. If "Chemo" does his job well, he leaves and never comes back! He was shooting off rounds from a gun at the end of the dream, rounds of "Chemo." The wife's actual marriage to her husband was doing just fine! Can you see the mess I'd have made if I quickly assumed that her husband in the dream was actually her husband?
