Getting Ready for the Marriage Supper of the Lamb
3-30-11 3:00AM Chris Stewart
I was in a huge, rambling house, and we were one large extended family living there. The house was being remodeled, and we had to empty the closets. An older lady took out my clothes and put them somewhere.
Then I had to get dressed for a special occasion. I could find a top, but there was no pair of pants. I looked everywhere, to no avail. I was sent downstairs to the basement to find them or to find someone who knew where they were. Down there, I found only dead ends to passages and nothing but temporary plywood walls, like one might see in a store that’s being remodeled.
I knew my dad was to take us somewhere, but I was also supposed to get picked up by some professors. When they arrived, it was still dark outside and I was nowhere near ready. They were quite business-like and not personable. I told someone to tell the professors to go on without me, which they did. My father said he would wait.
I looked for the pants in a closet, but it was bare. Someone told me she knew where the pants were and went to get them. But she didn’t bring them back to me. Then I was told they were on the dining room table. I looked, but didn’t see them.
Finally, someone else looked and found a shirt box on the table. In it there were a couple of pairs of pants, but nothing in a current style. One pair was an old pair of lined, gray wool flannel slacks, which may or may not have fit me. They were rumpled and had some stains on them. I asked where I could get them made presentable. There was some lady in another part of the house, and I was told she could help me.
Then I learned that my father was about to leave, like in 10 minutes. I saw one lady in a group that was ready, and she was wearing a yellow summer dress. I knew wool slacks simply wouldn’t do.
My father was gathering the family, and I wasn’t ready! I despaired of the situation, and sitting at a table, I put my head down on my arms and asked, “Why doesn’t anyone tell me the plans so I can be ready?” I sensed that the father would be back to get me.
Thoughts (Chris Stewart and Betsy Elam):
Chris believes she was S____ in this dream. He heard the gospel just a few days before his death, which occurred the day before this dream. He did repent and ask forgiveness at the very last. So, keep in mind throughout this interpretation that a woman, Chris, who had been burdened about S_____ and was praying a lot for S_____ is dreaming as if she is herself, but she is representing S_____, a man who, in the dream, is being called to be clothed with Christ, thus part of the Bride of Christ, looking for correct clothes to attend the Wedding Supper of the Lamb (Jesus), Rev 19:7-9. In Eph 6:14, truth is what we gird our loins with when we put on the armor of God (another telling of putting on the correct ‘clothes’). Girding our loins is akin to our modern custom of wearing pants. Therefore, looking for the pants represents the search for truth.
This dream shows the heart of the unsaved person who is sincerely seeking truth, crying out, “Why doesn’t anyone tell me the plans so I can be ready to go meet the Heavenly Father at the Special Occasion, the Wedding Supper of the Lamb.” Jesus, who is One with the Father (John 14:7-11, Isa 9:6,7), will come again for the Bride of Christ whom He has sanctified and cleansed by His Word, and thus made glorious with no spot or wrinkle, holy and blameless (Eph 5:25-27). Notice that in the dream, the pants that were found were a drab gray color with many wrinkles and stains, opposite of what the Bride of Christ wears at the return of the Bridegroom.
God gave the dream to speak to those of us who are saved and are entrusted with the gospel to preach to the lost. The Lord is crying out with the perishing; pleading for our voices to PREACH the truth to these lost ones, telling them how to get ready for the Father’s return to take them to Heaven. One of the saddest parts of the dream is when a seemingly true believer says that she knows where the pants (truth of the Gospel) are and says she will get the pants (truth) and bring them back to give to S_____ . It appears that other things have distracted her as more important than S____ ’s salvation and she never returns. Probably most of us have been guilty of this, not fully knowing the bleeding, passionate heart of Jesus and the Father for the lost. Let us pray to have God’s heart for the lost.
The house for the large, extended family represents related people on this earth. But many of the people only had worldly wisdom, which is full of dead ends and doesn’t lead to truth. Everywhere that they said to go to find ‘truth’ only led to emptiness, sin, (gray color with stains and wrinkles), the wrong fit and out of style (man’s ‘religions’, not the everlasting truth of God’s Word, the Bible).
This earthly life is temporary, not eternal, as the temporary plywood remodeling job indicates. Like the closets in the dream, we need to be emptied and cleansed of sin and iniquity (the hidden things) within ourselves. Wisdom personified (the older lady) makes us move out the old self to make room for the new self, which God has cleansed.
The special occasion that we need to get ready for is the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Only those dressed in ‘wedding clothes’ can come. See Matt 22:1-14. So, not just any attire will do, as the dream attested. The clothing had to be appropriate for the occasion. A wedding is a ‘bright’ and cheerful celebration and the yellow dress would be a good choice in terms of being bright and glorious (some of the ways the Bride of Christ is described). Also, it was a ‘summer’ dress. Summer is the season of fruit-bearing which is a requirement of a true believer who enters Heaven. We are to bear fruit (for others to partake of) and thus glorify the Father.
Getting taken to the special occasion, where S____ would meet the Father, by some ‘professors’ indicates that some people had tried to help him because they believed they did have knowledge of the Father and were going where He was going. But was their knowledge a business-like or academic knowledge about God, without personally knowing the love of the Father, since they arrived ‘in the dark’? Things were too dark spiritually for S_____ to be ready when they came. The professors remind me of the Pharisees who Jesus described as blind guides (in the dark) trying to lead the blind. It won’t work.
The number ten, as in the Father leaving in 10 minutes, is the number of completion. Jesus first came to earth in the ‘fullness of time’ and He will come again when His timetable of events and lost souls responding to His call is complete. Then again, it could also be more literal, representing 10 years, 10 generations or 10 days. Some things, such as this, the Lord chooses to keep veiled. But praise God for His grace and mercy, which cause Him to ‘wait’ for the one who is sincerely seeking Him. “For the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready. It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” (Rev 19:7, 8)
